St. Louis ArtWorks
Youth Apprenticeship Program
St. Louis ArtWorks provides underserved youth ages 14-19 with paid apprenticeships in the arts. The program operates year-round with sessions in the spring, summer, and fall providing learning opportunities focused on four key areas: arts education, employment training/job readiness, life skills including financial literacy, and mental/social health. Each Apprentice participates in regularly scheduled behavioral health training designed to increase artistic skills, vocational knowledge, and emotional well-being. Program components include art therapy, life skills, work readiness training, communication skills, and community collaborations. Each part of the program helps to inform participants of strategies to manage and eliminate barriers including poverty, high-mobility, and involvement in juvenile justice system, resulting in them ultimately becoming self-sufficient adults. Through a variety of arts-based prevention services, including behavioral health support, ArtWorks has a proven record of improving the overall well-being of its youth participants.
