Breakpoint Tennis and Life Skills Academy
Tennis and Mental Health
Breakpoint provides under-resourced youth (ages 4-16) year-round programming focused on tennis, reading, and life skills to improve behavioral, mental, and physical health and well-being. Our school-year pathway program improves youth mental health by delivering in-school and after-school tennis and mental health clinics weaving life skills and CASEL SEL Core Competencies framework into our curriculum. Our summer tennis and reading program includes mental health and literacy education programming in partnership with Nine PBS' Drawn In Initiative and St. Louis Public Library's summer reading program. With locations at city parks, an indoor facility, and school gyms, we serve over 475 youth in our programs. To address the unmet need for access to tennis education for underserved youth in our region, we partner with St. Louis County Schools, St. Louis Public Schools, Boys' and Girls' Clubs, community organizations, local universities, and municipal Rec Departments. Our two founders are lead professional coaches and one is a licensed professional counselor. We have ten contracted coaches and 12 volunteers, all USTA Safe Play Trained through Net Generation.
