St. Louis AAPI Mental Health Coalition: A Partnership for Education and Access
Asian American Community Actions for Mental Health Resources (ACCESS) is a community initiative to raise awareness, improve attitude, and promote skills among the St. Louis AAPI communities needed to increase the AAPI youth access to mental health services, through the following components: An annual AAPI mental health summit that brings together community organizations, parents, youth, and service organizations and other resources; an online mental health resource hub that features local mental health resources relevant for AAPI families and youth; 10 "listening circles" offered annually in partnership with AAPI community partner organizations serving parents and youth in various AAPI communities; attending 10 community events annually to share AAPI mental health resources; a Community Mental Health Referral program in which four trained advocates facilitate care referrals for families and youth as needed; an AAPI Mental Health Peer Advocate program, in which AAPI youth trained in Teen MHFA will assist with program outreach by attending community events, being present at listening circles, and offering overall support to the planning and implementation of the summit. We recognize the need to increase services to the diverse AAPI community in St. Louis. We have existing partnerships with the Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese, and Vietnamese communities, and the program design offers opportunities to expand those partnerships into other communities, including South Asian communities.
