A Red Circle

Student Advocates for Education (SAFE) Program
The S.A.F.E. program meets children where they are, in the classroom, to support their mental and behavioral health. Modeled after the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program, the S.A.F.E. program assigns adult Advocates to K-5 students on request from North County elementary schools. Advocates receive training on trauma-informed care and social emotional learning. Working one-on-one or in small groups with students, Advocates can help to untangle a complex mix of behavior and academic struggles, and help teachers identify when students are in need or simply "acting out." Advocates work with teachers and families to obtain the necessary mental and behavioral health interventions for children. Supporting and, when necessary, funding professional help, this program can prevent further escalation of behavior.
